This is the Apron we shall use to show that the murderer is a mentalist & going to any extent to take revenge for his brother.

We will need a similiar bottle of fake blood, to acheive the the graphic and effects that we need.

This is the sort of Face mask we need, to hide the identity of the murderer.
Panic Room Essay

Panic room is a movie based on claustrophobia, this movie represents characters such as Jodie foster who plays the character of Meg Altman and her daughter Kirsten Stewart who plays her daughter Sarah.
The atmosphere of claustrophobia is created through cameras slowly cornering the cameras, the main theme of this film is a thriller & the film is based on the atmosphere of claustrophobia as the main character Meg Altman is claustrophobic & as burglars enter the home, she enters the panic room as a place of safety but makes a mistake.

The main characters for the movie are Meg Altman (Jodie foster) & her daughter Sarah (Kirsten Stewart) the panic room was in introduced by to us as both mother and daughter went house hunting after the divorce from Meg’s wealthy husband, from the first sighting of the panic room from Meg she had a weird vibe which was shown to us.
The director of the movie was David Fincher, who based the movies theme on claustrophobia.

The first main glimpse and introduction we got of Meg and Sarah was when the estate agent took them into the house, this was where we started finding out about their characters.

The main establishing shot, was when Meg went into the panic room for the very first time, this was probably the main shot in the whole film as we knew that she was claustrophobic, which gave it more of an edge, through this we knew what the basis of the film would be, mainly because of the purpose of the panic room was to be in safety if any danger would occur in the house.

One of the main indications of the storyline came from one of the first scenes, as Meg was viewing the master bedroom and saw that the room was small being the master bedroom & as soon as Meg heard the 2 words panic room, she seemed worried and very shocked, this scene was where it all started from and shows what the films basis will be.

The indication of the films genre comes from the movies title and in the in the first few scenes when you see Meg being introduced to the panic room and its functions, this shows that their isn’t a major problem with the panic room as Sarah was highly fond of the panic room, but as Meg is claustrophobic, it had a bigger impact on her.

The theme of Panic room was a mixture between scenes as when they was rushing around the house for example to get to the panic room it was very upbeat tempo & on the other hand when they are trying to break into the panic room it goes very low tempo with a very low echo sound, several different sounds where used to build different atmosphere. - 1 -

Evaluation on preliminary task by Harim, Dennis & Zaman

What preparation was undertaken before the preliminary task?

Firstly we had to make a decision what our main theme was gone be, for example we made a short clip of a suspense theme as we ended it in a cliff-hanger as know one knew what was actually in the document, this was one of the first steps we had to take before we could go to the next step, then we had to think of a location of where would be the most convenient and convincing place for us to be able to interact with our viewers, this is why we used room 15 as it had the sort of vide be was looking for, such as a dimmed light kind of effect which went with the theme we where going for.
Finally once we had find out what kind of theme we where going for & where we was going to shoot it, we needed to find out which one of us where going to be the main characters and what roles we would play, as myself and Denis became the main characters all that was left to be done was to draw up the story boards and plan each scene out, this was all the preparation needed to be done, as all equipment was provided to us, so now we was ready to shoot out movie clip.

Where did we shoot?

We shot in the business studies room, which seemed like the perfect location for us, as we needed a room which had the right atmosphere for us as it was light dimmed with beams of light coming through the blinds which in a way makes it feel like a the kind of environment where people would have a serious conversation about life changing decisions such as lending big sums of money or drug deals for example and as we had a suspense theme going on with a thug kind of vide, this room seemed like the perfect location, we all agreed on this as a group.

What equipment have you used?

Their was two main pieces of equipment we used, one was the video camera which was provided to us by Mr Titheridge & the other main one was the document that we used which was basically the core of our production, as the whole scene built up to the viewing of the folder by myself, this was the main equipment used by us, however we also needed to use the Apple laptops provided to us also by Mr Titheridge to upload our movie and edit it and also add background music if we wish to, these where the main pieces of equipment we used for the production of our video.

What went well?

As this was our first ever short movie clip we had to make without and help in the actual production, we actual production itself went really well as nun of us have got any experience of how to actually edit movies which worked really well for us, as we thought that we would have had a great difficulty in actually constructing the movie by finding an ideal location, and actually sticking to the initial idea we had through the story boards, which I personally was impressed by myself and my team that we worked well and got out task done in the specific time period which we were provided with.

What difficulties did we face?

Well as one of the tasks was to do a shot reverse shot & get a shot of different angles, this would have been virtually impossible, as we only had a group of 3 and 2 of them being the main actors, we needed a extra person to help us with the production, to pull of the task of shot reverse shot etc, as we needed to find an extra individual, this was very time consuming and was a long procedure and also cut into our production time which was a great downfall, also as we knew about stuff like 180 degree rule we broke this rule maybe through lack of time or maybe the inexperience of how to actually conduct the move, which was a bit of a problem & also another major problem we was faced with that we needed the cameras to switch at the perfect time so that we could get the clip to look as smooth as possible, which didn’t actually go as intended, however we did well for our first time production.

How could we improve it?

We could have defiantly improved it on a major scale by doing something as minor as better time management, this would of allowed us to sit in the environment we shot in and plan out everything in the room i.e. where the camera man should be standing in this shot, what angle the camera man should be shooting whilst Denis is gliding the folder over to, this is where the production could look fairly professional by having cuts between shots perfectly and having everything running smoothly.

What good pointers have we picked up that we intend to carry to main production?

Well some of the main points that we have defiantly realised that we need to plan every little step from the first scene to the last scene, as through this we will be able to make the prefect production.
The main one that we will be carrying through I think will be the time management as this will definitely be a major factor as the next project is going to be a big one as it is our main coursework piece which needs to be more details and be of higher expectations.
Analysis of opening sequence (Saw 1)

In the opening sequence there is a man inside of a dark distorted room in a bath tub asleep, suddenly a blue light appears and he wakes up choking on the water in shock, as his head arises from the water, the blue light suddenly disappears into the bathtubs piping, he then starts screaming as if a child where In pain, then suddenly hears a voice in the background saying “there’s is no point I have tried” then the guy that was in the bathtub demands that the lights are turned on, as he has been in darkness for so long the lights hurt his eyes as he once again screams in pain, then repetitively starts swearing as he sees his leg tied to piping alongside the wall & sees a dead man on the floor and demands for answers, this was in the first scene which is approximately 3 and a half minutes long.
The two main characters introduced to the film are the guy that was tied up in the bath tub and the other guy which is opposite him on the wall tied up their, these where the only two characters introduced in the opening sequence.
The characters have been constructed in a weird atmosphere and the audience couldn’t really related to them as no-one would or could of possibly been in such a position, once the characters have been seen in these circumstances it makes us suddenly wonder, why are there two men tied on walls and why is their a dead guy in the middle etc which gets us thinking and once we start thinking like this the hermeneutic code takes place as we start to put bits and pieces together which starts to gain out interests and makes us want to know more about the movie which will gradually maintain our interest.
The opening sequence setting refers to us that the person tormenting these people has to be a cruel and twisted person as they are locking in a shower room kind of place which is full of broken tiles and random accessories such as bathtubs to make us feel that something gruesome is about to happen as there is already a dead guy on the floor, but the setting is ideal for the kind of tormenting that takes place within the film as it is a deserted place.
The first main shot is a close up to allow us to see that there is a man in the bathtub and then suddenly turns into an extreme close up to show us what his reaction will be to the blue light and being in a bath tub, once he gets up from the bath tub and is on the floor and demands the lights to be turned on and shows a worms eye view which shows his vulnerability to the situation and to the surrounding.
There is slight sounds of water ripples slashing against the bath tubs & which turns into a gasp of air as he wakes up due to the light, panting and choking noises are made also as it shows that he was being held down by the water stopper, loud shouting noises of help are cried out as everything goes silent all you can hear is the cry of help echo around the room, he talks to himself in a manner as if he thinks he is dead as he hears a silent but deep voice saying “ your not dead” he demands for light to be turned on in a deep stern voice, distorted non diagetic noises on a high pitch are made as he creeps over to the body slowly, tempo gets faster as different shots of the dead body and the room is shown & once he sees that the there is no physical way out he screams louder for help, if you watch the movie abit longer you can see that jamming is used, which shows us that there is no physical way that these two can leave with inflicting pain on themselves or others.
Opening credits are displayed in a dark atmosphere with gory, high pitched sounds in the background of knives sharpening, the font of the text is ideal as the pain parts such as twisted production is placed in the centre with large font to make it stand out from anything else in the shot & the colour also used is ideal as it is dark shading colours with a hint of red.
